MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until March of 2024 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

National Ballet of Ukraine performs at the Centre

MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY: the National Ballet of Ukraine performs excerpts from Le Corsaire, Giselle, and Don Quixote at the Centre in Vancouver. These performances also support Ukrainians in need by providing audiences the opportunity to help through the First Lady’s Olena Zelenska Foundation, providing critical human services in Ukraine.

TUESDAY: Reel Causes and the Vancouver Black and Indigenous Creative Association present a screening at the Rio Theatre of director Rick DuPree’s documentary Seattle Black Panthers Fight For Justice & Freedom. Following the film, DuPree will join Elmer Dixon for a discussion that delves into the film and Dixon’s story in his memoir Die Standing: From Black Panther Party Revolutionary to Global Diversity Consultant.

WEDNESDAY: Just for Laughs presents American comedian and actress Ilana Glazer, costar of TV’s Broad City, performing standup at the Vogue Theatre.

Gov’t Mule plays the Vogue

THURSDAY: American blues-rock jam band Gov’t Mule,  featuring guitarist-vocalist Warren Haynes, plays tunes from latest album Peace…Like a River at the Vogue Theatre.

THURSDAY: as part of Black History Month, screening at the VIFF Centre of of the jazz documentary Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes, preceded by a performance by tbe Feven Kidane Sextet.

FRIDAY: the Vancouver Symphony performs Ludwig Göransson’s Oscar-winning score of Black Panther during a screening of director Ryan Coogler’s 2018 superhero film at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: American stoner-rock trio Mos Generator plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with local guests Empress and Space Queen. CANCELLED.

Frankenhooker screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of Basket Case director Frank Henenlotter’s 1990 horror-comedy Frankenhooker, about a New Jersey mad doctor who rebuilds his girlfriend with body parts from exploded hookers.
