MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY AND FRIDAY: Basically Good Media Lab and Emily Carr University of Art + Design present a screening at the Cinematheque of Goodbye to Language, Jean-Luc Goddard’s 2014 3D film about an extramarital affair, twice told with two sets of actors. In French with English subtitles, and featuring a video introduction by Toronto-based filmmaker Blake Williams, who specializes in stereoscopic media.

Denyse Thomasos exhibit at the VAG

MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until March of 2024 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

THURSDAY: Salt Lake City indie-rock quartet The Moss plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guest Akira Galaxy from Seattle.

The Red Wings play the Canucks

THURSDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Detroit Red Wings in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Salt Spring Island-based musician Harry Manx performs slide guitar-laced blues blended with Indian folk melodies on Thursday at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios and Friday at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James. Here’s my interview with Manx from 2022.

Bunny runs at Anvil Theatre

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: the Search Party presents the Western Canada premiere of Hannah Moscovitch’s Bunny, starring Emma Slipp as a woman who, armed only with Victorian literature and an unconventional upbringing, discovers the power of her own desire. Running until February 18 at Anvil Theatre.

FRIDAY: pianist Alexandra Dariescu joins the Vancouver Symphony and guest conductor Shiyeon Sung for a performance of Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: the Vancouver men’s choir Chor Leoni joins Montreal’s folk ensemble La Nef in The Return Voyage, a 75-minute program of sea songs and shanties at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church.

Silversun Pickups play the Commodore

FRIDAY: L.A. alt-rock quartet Silversun Pickups play tunes from latest album Physical Thrills at the Commodore Ballroom.
