FRIDAY: American comedian, actor, and podcaster Bill Burr performs standup at Rogers Arena as part of Just For Laughs Vancouver. Please note: cell phones, smart watches, cameras, or recording devices are not permitted in the performance area.
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of writer-director Harmony Korine‘s polarizing 1997 debut feature, Gummo, an unapologetically banal glimpse of life on the wrong side of the tracks in a poverty-sticken, quasi-dystopian rural mid-Western town.

La Chinga plays the WISE Hall
FRIDAY: Vancouver power-trio La Chinga plays a release party for new album Primal Forces at the WISE Hall, with guests Rebel Priest, Cache Creek, and Tuff Duzt.
FRIDAY: West African guitarist Vieux Farka Touré, son of Ali Farka Touré, explores the traditional blues of Mali at the York Theatre.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until April 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Boston Bruins are in town
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Boston Bruins in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
SATURDAY: Basically Good Media Lab and Emily Carr University of Art + Design present a screening at the Cinematheque of Goodbye to Language, Jean-Luc Goddard’s 2014 3D film about an extramarital affair, twice told with two sets of actors. In French with English subtitles, and featuring a video introduction by Toronto-based filmmaker Blake Williams, who specializes in stereoscopic media.

Coast to Coast plays the Surrey Arts Centre
SATURDAY: local tribute band Coast to Coast performs the music of UFO, Scorpions, and the Michael Schenker Group at the Surrey Arts Centre, with proceeds to the Surrey Food Bank. Non-perishable food items can also be donated at the event.
SATURDAY: ’80s hard-rock band Quiet Riot, featuring longtime bassist Rudy Sarzo, plays the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver.
SATURDAY: British experimental post-punk quintet Squid plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Water From Your Eyes. SOLD OUT.

SATURDAY: American comedian Wanda Sykes performs an evening of standup at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre as part of JFL Vancouver.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: Canadian rock group the Sam Roberts Band performs tunes from latest album The Adventures Of Ben Blank at the Commodore Ballroom.
SUNDAY: Canadian blues-roots singer-guitarist Colin Linden, member of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, plays the Bez Arts Hub in Langley.
