MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until April 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Avalanche hits town

WEDNESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Colorado Avalanche in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

WEDNESDAY: Vancouver folk-rock band Just a Season, fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Scott Smith, plays tunes from latest album Leave to Come Home at Guilt and Co.

WEDNESDAYA Celebration of Love at the Commodore Ballroom celebrates the life of B.C. music-industry veteran Rob Pattee, who is dying of liver cancer, with performances by Washboard Union, Wide Mouth Mason, Hot Hot Heat, Karen Lee Batten, Daniel Powter, and Crystal Shawanda.

Stopmotion screens at the Rio

WEDNESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Robert Morgan’s psychological horror film Stopmotion, about a  stop-motion animator struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother.

THURSDAY: American soul acts Lee Fields and the Monophonics perform on a double bill at the Vogue Theatre.

THURSDAYGet Back Unplugged–a local sextet composed of violinist Cameron Wilson, guitarist Andrew Hillhouse, vocalist LJ Mounteney, accordionist Allan Dionne, guitarist David Gibbons, and bassist Brent Gubbels–performs music of the Beatles in a folk-pop context at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.

FRIDAY: the first night of Punkstravaganza VIII at the Rickshaw Theatre features performances by the Dreadnoughts, Balkan Shmalkan, and You Big Idiot.

FRIDAY: Canadian folk singer-songwriter Roy Forbes, formerly known as Bim, performs songs from latest album Edge of Blue at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios.
