MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until April 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Buffalo Sabres in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

Gwar plays the Vogue

WEDNESDAY: costumed comedic thrash-metal gore collective Gwar plays the Vogue Theatre, with guests Cancer Bats.

WEDNESDAY: Laughter on the Drive features standup comedy by Chris Griffin, Kwasi Thomas, Katie-Ellen Humphries, Nancy Ho, and Arash Narchi at the Flamingo Room on Commercial Drive.

THURSDAY: Scottish folk quintet Ímar–featuring current and former members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk, Barrule and Cara–plays the Mel Lehan Hall at St. James. SOLD OUT.

THURSDAY: opening celebration at the Pipe Shop for the Polygon Gallery exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia, featuring Pussy Riot members Maria Alyokhina, Olga Borisova, Diana Burkot, and Nadya Tolokonnikova in conversation with exhibition curators Ragnar Kjartansson and Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir.

The Habs are in town

THURSDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Montreal Canadiens in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

FRIDAY: Russian feminist protest and performance art/punk-rock group Pussy Riot performs at the Pearl, with guest Wait//Less.

Stopmotion screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Robert Morgan’s psychological horror film Stopmotion, about a  stop-motion animator struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother.
