MONDAY: Seattle grunge pioneers Pearl Jam perform tunes from new album Dark Matter at Rogers Arena, with guests Deep Sea Diver. Here’s my interview with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready from 2003.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the DOXA Documentary Film Festival, running to May 12, features film screenings, panel discussions, public forums, and educational programs at various Vancouver venues.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: J.E.H. MacDonald? A Tangled Garden at the Vancouver Art Gallery until May 12 features 10 previously unknown painted sketches attributed to a founding member of the Group of Seven.

TUESDAY: politically- and socially-conscious Vancouver alt-rock singer-songwriter Matthew Good plays the Commodore Ballroom. Here’s my interview with Good from 1996.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Everett Aquasox in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The Oilers are in town

WEDNESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in round two of the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup Playoffs at Rogers Arena.

WEDNESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes’s horror flick Late Night with the Devil, about a live television broadcast in 1977 that goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: through videos, photographs, testimonies, song lyrics, and reflections, the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia offers an account of infamous feminist art collective Pussy Riot’s non-violent actions, running until June 2 at the Polygon Gallery.

THURSDAY: Seattle riff-rockers the Supersuckers, featuring bassist-vocalist Eddie Spaghetti, coheadline the Rickshaw Theatre with Electric Six and guests Volk.

Jack de Keyzer plays Blue Frog Studios

FRIDAY: Canadian blues-rock singer and guitarist Jack de Keyzer performs two shows with his band at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios. Here’s my interview with de Keyzer from 1991.

FRIDAY: musical director Otto Tausk is joined by British composer and musicologist Paul Rissmann and the Vancouver Symphony in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that features Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Here’s my interview with Tausk from 2021.
