MONDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of They Shot the Piano Player, directors Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal’s animated musical docu-fiction based on the story of Francisco Tenório Jr, a Brazilian pianist who was murdered while touring Argentina in 1976. Narrated by Jeff Goldblum.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Tri-City Dust Devils in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

WEDNESDAY: San Diego tribute act Chest Fever celebrates 55 years of the Band at the Pearl.

Becky Black plays Green Auto

WEDNESDAY: the Pack A.D. singer-guitarist Becky Black plays Green Auto, with guests Hyaenas and Spectator 6.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: through videos, photographs, testimonies, song lyrics, and reflections, the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia offers an account of infamous feminist art collective Pussy Riot’s non-violent actions, running until June 2 at the Polygon Gallery.

THURSDAY: L.A. jazz saxophonist and composer Kamasi Washington plays the Vogue Theatre as part of his Fearless Movement Tour.

FRIDAY: musical director Otto Tausk leads violinist Vadim Gluzman and the Vancouver Symphony in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Tchaikovsky’s beloved Violin Concerto.

FRIDAY: the B.C. Lions take on the Edmonton Elks in a Canadian Football League preseason game at BC Place.

Unleash the Archers plays the Rickshaw
