FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Ti West’s 2022 horror flick X, about a group of young filmmakers who set out to make an adult film in rural Texas and wind up fighting for their lives.

FRIDAY: the third night of the four-night Save the WISE fundraiser feature performances by the History of Gunpowder, Balkan Shmalkan, Chase the Bear, Cara Bateman, and the Reviberators at the WISE Hall.

Bruce McCulloch performs at the Hollywood

FRIDAY: former member of the Kids in the Hall comedy troupe, Bruce McCulloch, performs his show Tales of Bravery and Stupidity at the Hollywood Theatre.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

Ring of Fire runs at the Granville Island Stage

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, running until August 11 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Hillsboro Hops in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the St. Louis City SC in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.

Spendo plays the WISE Hall

SATURDAY: the last night of the four-night Save the WISE fundraiser feature performances by You Big Idiot, Spendo, Fallen Stars, and Super Krystal at the WISE Hall.

SUNDAY: Vancouver guitarist-vocalist Scott Smith leads Scott Smith and the Midnight Riders in a free Jazz Festival concert paying tribute to the music of the Allman Brothers Band at the Shipyards.
