Coast to Coast plays Surrey Canada Day

MONDAY: Canada Together is a Canada Day celebration at Canada Place featuring food trucks, kids’ entertainment, Indigenous displays, and mainstage performances by Said the Whale, Fake Shark, and the Free Label.

MONDAY: Surrey Canada Day features free mainstage performances by the Sheepdogs, Sass Jordan, and Coast to Coast, a tribute to the music of UFO, Scorpions, and the Michael Schenker Group. Event includes kids’ zone, beverage garden, food trucks, and closing fireworks display.

MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Everett Aquasox in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Emily Carr exhibition runs at the VAG

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, running until August 11 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.

The Warriors screens at the Rio

WEDNESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Walter Hill’s 1979 New York City street gang flick The Warriors.

THURSDAY: Canadian pop-rock singer-songwriter Gowan (“A Criminal Mind”) plays the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver. Here’s my interview with Gowan from 1990.

FRIDAY: Canadian alt-rock act Softcult, featuring twin sisters Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn, plays tunes from new EP Heaven at the Pearl, with guests Present.

The Stones play BC Place

FRIDAY: British rock legends the Rolling Stones perform their hits and tunes from new album Hackney Diamonds at BC Place.
