FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Philip Kaufman’s 1978 horror remake Invasion of the Body Snatchers, starring the late Canadian acting great Donald Sutherland.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Canadian improvisor Colin Mochrie of TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? performs two Arts Club Reunion comedy shows at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the three-day Vancouver Folk Music Festival at Jericho Beach Park features over 40 musical acts from 15 countries, with mainstage performances by Dobet Gnahoré, Moontricks, Leif Vollebekk, and Māmā Mihirangi & The Māreikura (Friday); Highway 61 Reimagined, Iris DeMent, James Vincent McMorrow, and Etran de L’Aïr (Saturday); and BCUC, the Milk Carton Kids, the Wood Brothers, and Jeremy Dutcher (Sunday).
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Chiefs in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Rings of Fire runs at Granville Island Stage
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, running until August 11 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Port Moody Ribfest at Rocky Point Park features food vendors, family activities, and live music by tribute acts performing songs by Tina Turner, the Tragically Hip, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Bon Jovi, Joe Cocker, and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.

School of Rock runs at Stanley Park
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: Theatre Under the Stars presents performances in Stanley Park of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black movie, with pre-show performances from School of Rock Vancouver.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Playland features midway games, attractions like the Haunted Mansion and Sweet Escape Mini Golf, food options, and numerous rides, including the newly launched rollercoaster, ThunderVolt. Playland runs until August 16 on the PNE Grounds, then becomes part of admission to the PNE Fair.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Music on Main presents The Tempest Project, in which audiences are led through the Vancouver Playhouse on a roving, Shakespeare-inspired musical adventure under the direction of David Pay.
SATURDAY: Macedos Pirotecnia, a pyrotechnics team from Portugal, lights up the sky at the first night of the Celebration of Light fireworks event at English Bay.
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.
