FRIDAY: the Champions of Hope fundraiser at Beaumont Studios features performances by Spank Williams, Julien Lavoie, JARS, and Zoe Twist, with proceeds to support the Canadian Mental Health Association.
FRIDAY: former Ultravox and Visage member Midge Ure plays the Rickshaw Theatre on his Band in a Box Tour, with guests Ringfinger.
FRIDAY: 25-year-old blues-rock guitarist and singer from Clarksdale, Mississippi, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, plays the Commodore Ballroom.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

Ring of Fire’s run ends at Granville Island Stage
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, held over until August 25 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the 2024 PNE Fair runs until September 2, featuring numerous exhibits, attractions, and entertainment, including the SuperDogs, Dueling Pianos, agriculture displays, drag show, cooking demonstrations, musical performances, and rides such as the newly launched rollercoaster, ThunderVolt. Note: closed August 19 and 26.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Everett Aquasox in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis is an exhibition of 17 self-portraits by photographer Martine Gutierrez, running until September 29 at the Polygon Gallery.

Kevin McDonald performs at the Improv Centre
SATURDAY: Unhinged with Kevin McDonald at the Improv Centre sees the member of Canadian comedy troupe Kids in the Hall featured in a fusion of improv and standup. SOLD OUT.
SATURDAY: Theatre Under the Stars presents its final performance in Stanley Park of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black movie, with pre-show performance from School of Rock Vancouver.
SATURDAY: the Salmon Sessions Music Festival at the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club features performances by Daniel Wesley, Camaro 67, Antonio Larosa, Brass Camel, and Fionn.
SATURDAY: the Watson Street Music Festival is a free, all-ages event in Mount Pleasant featuring an artisan market, food vendors, street games, and musical performances by Nicky MacKenzie, Sleepy Gonzales, Rebecca Sichon, Kapok, Ramen Fog, Meredith Louise, and Velavox.
SATURDAY: the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival at the Westminster Quay is a free event featuring artisan market, live entertainment, a family-friendly beer garden, food vendors, and a fireworks display.

Gerry Dee performs at the Coliseum
SATURDAY: Canadian comedian Gerry Dee from TV’s Mister D performs standup at the Pacific Coliseum as part of his Funny You Should Say That Tour. Tickets include admission to the PNE Fair.
SUNDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of a new restoration of music documentarian Roviros Manthoulis’s 1973 film The Blues Under the Skin, featuring candid interviews and intimate performances by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mance Lipscomb, Bukka White, and Roosevelt Sykes.
