That time I asked R&B legend Booker T. Jones a question from blues-rocker David Gogo

Before I called up Booker T. Jones for an interview in advance of his upcoming show at the Vogue I sent out a tweet asking if anybody had a question for the American music great.

The only follower who responded was Nanaimo blues-rocker and verified “Friend of the Newt” David Gogo–who, by the way, was just nominated for a Juno for his latest album, Vicksburg Call.

“Ask him if he ever breaks out the trombone in concert any more,” suggested Gogo, so I did.

“I sent that trombone to New Orleans after the flood,” explained Jones. “I’m good friends with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band down there, and they told me that a lotta the kids lost their instruments in the flood. I wasn’t usin’ them–they were in my garage–so I sent them down there. And that’s where they still are.”
