MONDAY: Danish heavy-metal quintet King Diamond plays the Vogue Theatre (moved from the Orpheum), with guests Overkill and Night Demon.

MONDAY: 25th anniversary screening at VIFF Centre of David Fincher’s bruising black comedy Fight Club, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Rangers are in town

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the New York Rangers in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Cirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.

THURSDAY: the Rio Grind Film Festival at the Rio Theatre features screenings of independent short horror, action, grindhouse, erotica, fantasy, and animation films from Canada and around the world.

Mac Sabbath plays the Rickshaw

THURSDAY: double bill at the Rickshaw Theatre features costumed McDonald’s-themed Black Sabbath tribute band Mac Sabbath and Seattle raunch ‘n’ roll quartet the Supersuckers.

FRIDAY: Comedy Here Often? presents standup comedy by Will Corry, Niki Mohrdar, Kay, Abdul Ali, and headliner Sterling Scott at 604 Studios.

FRIDAY: New Jersey heartland rockers Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform the Boss’s past hits and tunes from his latest album Only the Strong Survive at Rogers Arena.

Toque plays Great Canadian Casino

FRIDAY: Canadian rock quartet Toque–composed of singer-guitarist Todd Kerns, guitarist Cory Churko, bassist Brent Fitz, and drummer Shane Gaalaas–performs originals and classic Canuck-rock covers at Great Canadian Casino Vancouver. Here’s my interview with Todd Kerns from 2011.
