FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Jim Sharman’s 1975 cult-classic rock musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter. Costumes and audience participation encouraged.

FRIDAY: the ReViberators–an instrumental surf-rock trio composed of guitarist Noah Walker, bassist Gillian Moranz, and drummer Jodie Ponto–plays Guilt and Co.

The Predators are in town

FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Nashville Predators in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báezorganized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAYCirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.

Festival of Lights at VanDusen Gardens

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden runs until January 5, featuring 15 acres of beautiful gardens adorned with over a million Christmas lights.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: The Lind Biennial, running until February 2 at Polygon Gallery, is a showcase of new work by the finalists of the Philip B. Lind Prize for Emerging Artists. Exhibiting artists include Mena El Shazly, Karice Mitchell, Dion Smith-Dokkie, Parumveer Walia, and Casey Wei.

SATURDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of a 4K restoration of director Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-winning horror film, The Silence of the Lambs, starring Jody Foster as FBI agent Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as evil genius Hannibal Lecter. Here’s my original review from 1991.

SUNDAY: live big-screen broadcast at the Rio Theatre of the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by American comedian Nikki Glaser.

Terminal Station plays Guilt and Co.
