I’ve been on a bit of an Allman Brothers kick lately, ever since scoring a copy of their recently released Final Concert 10-28-14 CD.
I even made the trek out to White Rock a while back to see Scott Smith and the Midnight Ramblers perform their tribute to the Allmans at Blue Frog Studios.
But I’ve still got a hankerin’ for that sweet southern sound, so I’m setting my sights on another Allman Brothers tribute band at the Rio Theatre this Sunday (January 26).
The Allmost Brothers are a local six-piece ABB tribute band composed of guitarists Todd Taylor and Johannes Grames, keyboardist Scott Russell, bassist Marcus Charalambous, and drummers Ed Johnson and Douglas Kerr.
Vancouver guitar freaks may recall Taylor for his work in the ’90s with stellar blues-rock/jam band Two Trains and local club act Brick House, or for his 2003 project Todd Taylor & the New Vehicle. Grames made a name for himself after many years and many gigs with the popular Grames Brothers.
The Allmost Brothers’ setlist includes classic tracks from the Allman Brothers’ late-’60s beginnings (“Trouble No More”, “Whipping Post”), its early-’70s heyday (“Ramblin’ Man”, “Jessica”), and its 1990s rebirth (“Soulshine”, “Back Where It All Begins”).
The band has also been known to toss in a Tedeschi Trucks-style version of the Derek and the Dominos tune, “Keep on Growing”, and you know that can’t be bad.
