
Limblifter plays the Commodore

FRIDAY: Portland-based country-rock quintet the Rose City Band plays tunes from latest album Sol Y Sombra at the Fox Cabaret, with guest Lee Baggett.
FRIDAY: Vancouver rock bands Odds & Limblifter, led by respective singer-songwriters Craig Northey and Ryan Dahle, play the Commodore Ballroom. Here’s my interview with Craig Northey from 1997 and my interview with Ryan Dahle from 2000.
FRIDAY: North Carolina alt-country/indie-rock singer-songwriter MJ Lenderman plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Wild Pink. SOLD OUT.

Eraserhead screens at the Rio
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of Eraserhead, late director David Lynch‘s creepy and surreal 1977 examination of male paranoia.
FRIDAY: Let Hope Prevail is a fundraising concert for the Gaza Children’s Fund and UN World Food Program at the Canadian Memorial United Church, featuring performances by the Tanglewood Trio, Luke Wallace, and the No Sh!t Shirleys.
FRIDAY: local blues-rockers Terminal Station–composed of singer-guitarist Scott Smith, keyboardist Darryl Havers, bassist Jeremy Holmes, and drummer Leon Power–plays Bimini’s Pub & Lounge. Here’s my interview with Scott Smith from 2020.

Wonderful Joe runs at the Cultch
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: performances at the Cultch Historic Theatre until February 23 of Toronto puppeteer Ronnie Burkett‘s Wonderful Joe, about a man and his dog who head into the world for one last grand adventure together.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Just for Laughs Vancouver is a comedy festival running to February 23 at various Vancouver venues, featuring performances this week by Pete Holmes, Ryan Long, Sam Jay, Jiaoying Summers, Preacher Lawson, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ivan Decker.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

xʷəlməxʷ child runs at Polygon Gallery
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: xʷəlməxʷ child, running until May 25 at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery, features Manuel Axel Strain‘s figurative paintings, transformed into pictographs and set against photographic murals.
