When I interviewed Alice Cooper for the fourth time, back in 1999, he was touring behind his four-CD box set, The Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper.
The box set’s accompanying booklet included a flattering introduction by none other than former Sex Pistol John Lydon, who isn’t generally known for flattering anybody.
“Killer is the best rock album ever made,” wrote Lydon, who used to sing the Billion Dollar Babies track “I Love the Dead” in London subway stations, accompanying himself on violin, with Sid Vicious scratching away on acoustic guitar.
So at one point in the conversation I asked the Coop if he was happy that Lydon wrote the intro, which led to a little analysis of what “Johnny Rotten” is all about.
