Way back in 1993 I interviewed Vancouver-based rock guitarist Lance Reegan-Diehl, because he’d sent me a homemade eight-song cassette titled Widgets & Wooden Nickels that blew me away with some very wicked guitar playing.
And he was only 23 at the time!
Recently Reegan-Diehl sent me his latest recording, 2023’s Maniacal Cavern, and I’m happy to report that, as expected, his instrumental capabilities have only improved over the last 30 years.
Fans of the Joe Satriani/Steve Vai school of shred-tastic guitar music will not be disappointed, as evidenced by Maniacal Cavern‘s nine-minute opening track, “Crying Nut”.
Other standout instrumentals on Maniacal Cavern include “What a Rush”, “Slow Jam to Mars”, “Take Off the ‘G’ String”, and the beautifully melodic “Sleepy Wheel”, which also features a solo by Italian guitarist Andrea Quartarone.
If you’re groovin’ to these tunes like I am, I suggest you check out Lance Reegan-Diehl’s website to order a copy and learn more about this outstanding Canadian picker.
