Used Book Sale at the VPL

MONDAY: final day of the 2025 PNE Fair, which features nightly concerts, attractions like the SuperDogs and I-Flip aerial shows, cultural showcases, agricultural displays, sand sculptures, family play zones, food and market vendors, the PNE Prize Home, and dozens of rides and midway games at Playland.
MONDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Boogie Nights, director Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 drama which traces the rise and fall of a prodigiously-endowed performer on the ’70s porno-movie scene.
TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Everett Aquasox in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Almost Famous screens at the Rio
WEDNESDAY: 25th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of Almost Famous, writer-director Cameron Crowe‘s coming-of-age drama about a teenaged journalist hired by Rolling Stone magazine to accompany an up-and-coming ’70s rock band on their first big tour.
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Star Witnesses, running at the Polygon Gallery until September 28, assembles works by 11 artists whose observations of the cosmos bring new understandings of exploratory and migratory movements on Planet Earth.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Friends of the VPL presents its four-day Used Book Sale at the Vancouver Public Library, featuring thousands of gently used books, plus CDs and DVDs, starting at $2. Bring your own bag.

Fringe Fest on Granville Island
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: the 2025 Vancouver Fringe Festival, running until September 14, features over 80 performances of alternative theatre, comedy, dance, music, and drag on and around Granville Island. Shows include Never Too Late Theatre’s God the Daughter.
FRIDAY: Vancouver saxophonist Steve Kaldestad performs music from jazz legend Sonny Rollins’ 1965 album Sonny Rollins On Impulse! at Frankie’s Jazz, accompanied by pianist Chris Gestrin, bassist Steve Holy, and drummer Jesse Cahill.
FRIDAY: Vancouver blues-rock quartet the Grames Brothers, composed of guitar-playing brothers Johannes and Panos Grames, drummer Randall Stoll, and bassist Billy Mendoza, plays the Rio Theatre, with guests Them Ordinary Things.

Tess Anderson plays the Rickshaw
FRIDAY: L.A. muso-comic Melissa Strype hosts Femme-Tember, an evening of female and female-fronted bands at the Rickshaw Theatre, featuring performances by local acts Hyaenas, Cat Madden, Tess Anderson, Hot Spell, and Cordie M. Sad.
