Back in 2002 I interviewed Smash Mouth guitarist and main songwriter Greg Camp when his band was touring behind its self-titled third album, which went gold in the States.
Two years earlier the Jim Carrey black comedy Me, Myself & Irene had been released, and its soundtrack featured eight Steely Dan songs performed by the likes of Wilco, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and Ben Folds Five.
Smash Mouth had covered “Do It Again”, but according to Camp the “snobby” guys from Steely Dan didn’t care for it much.
