MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver International Film Festival, running until October 12, features films from around the world, live performances, talks, and industry sessions at various Vancouver venues.
TUESDAY: American singer‑songwriter and guitarist Martin Sexton reinterprets the Beatles’ Abbey Road album in its entirety before performing a set of originals at the BlueShore at CapU.
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY: Canadian roots-pop band Blue Rodeo, featuring singer-guitarists Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, performs at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on its 40th anniversary tour, with guest Adam Baldwin. Here’s my interview with Jim Cuddy from 1991.

Fright Nights on the PNE Grounds
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, runs until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).
FRIDAY: stunt performer/Jackass star Steve-O brings his new multimedia comedy show Crash and Burn! to Surrey’s Bell Performing Arts Centre. Content advisory: 19+ years old. Here’s my 2010 review of Jackass 3D, in which Steve-O stole the show.

The Flames are in town
FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Calgary Flames in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
FRIDAY: Americana/alt-country singer-songwriter from Louisiana, Lucinda Williams, performs tunes from her latest album Stories from a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart at the Vogue Theatre.
FRIDAY: Vancouver guitar-rock greats 54-40, featuring lead vocalist Neil Osborne, play the first of two nights at the Commodore Ballroom, with guest Kandle. Here’s my interview with Neil Osborne from 2000.

Possession screens at the Rio
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of a 4K restoration of director Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror-drama Possession, starring Isabelle Adjani as a woman who descends into madness as her marriage unravels.
