MONDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the St. Louis Blues in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
TUESDAY: Caged In at the Hollywood Theatre features screenings of the horror flicks Longlegs and Mandy, both featuring Nicolas Cage.
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY: Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin performs a live score to a screening of Dario Argento‘s 1977 horror classic Suspiria at the Rio Theatre. Here’s my interview with Goblin’s Maurizio Guarini from 2013.

Screenings at VIFF Centre of Israel Palestine
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958-1989, in which filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson weaves together footage to tell the story of the rise of the Israeli state and the Palestinian struggle for self-determination–as seen by Swedish media.
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival, running from October 15 to 18, features an opening-night screening at Cineplex International Village Cinemas of Demon Knight, hosted by Gigi Saul Guerrera. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, runs until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).

Kenny vs. Spenny at the Hollywood
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: the raunchy Canadian comedy team of Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice bring their Kenny vs. Spenny antics to the Hollywood Theatre for two nights. Here’s my interview with Spencer Rice from 2021.
FRIDAY: rock ‘n’ roll piano player Jason D. Williams plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests the Supersuckers and Billy and the Parole Models.
FRIDAY: the BC Lions take on the Edmonton Elks in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.

Car Wheels reimagined at Kay Meek
FRIDAY: Canadian guitar great Steve Dawson leads the first night of an all-star reimagining of Lucinda Williams’ iconic album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, at West Vancouver’s Kay Meek Arts Centre. Here’s my interview with Steve Dawson from 1994.
