That time I asked Joe Satriani if his pal Dave Martone was gonna jam when Chickenfoot plays Vancouver

By Steve Newton

I did my sixth interview with guitar genius Joe Satriani back in May of 2009, one month before the release of the debut album by Chickenfoot, the band he’d formed with singer Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony, and drummer Chad Smith.

At one point in the conversation I mentioned Mike Fraser, the Vancouver mixer/engineer/producer who’d mixed the Chickenfoot disc, which caused Satch to mention another local guy, Bryan Adams, who did the CD’s photography.

Then I brought up Satriani’s Vancouver-based buddy, Dave Martone, an incredible guitarist who he’d recorded with in the past. I wondered if–since Chickenfoot was going to be playing the Commodore Ballroom soon–whether there was any chance of Martone getting up to jam.
