FRIDAY: David Suzuki’s 90th Birthday Bash at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre features performances by Bruce Cockburn, Sarah McLachlan, Danny Michel, Chantal Kreviazuk, William Prince, and Tanya Tagaq, with proceeds to support the David Suzuki Foundation’s work protecting nature, advancing climate solutions, and creating a sustainable future.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until June 30 at the DomePink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring the mindblowing music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAYThat Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.

SATURDAY: Vancouver’s 18-piece jazz ensemble the Hard Rubber Orchestra performs new music by composers Anna Webber, Matt Choboter, and Noah Franche-Nolan at the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.

Ché Aimee Dorval plays Franklin Commons

SATURDAY: Vancouver-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Ché Aimee Dorval blends trip-hop, dream-pop, and indie electronica at a multimedia warehouse show at Franklin Commons, with guest Jian.

SATURDAY: the Grapes of Wrath and Limblifter are featured in a double-bill of Vancouver pop-rock and alt-rock bands from the ’80s and ’90s at the Commodore Ballroom. Here’s my interview with Limblifter’s Ryan Dahle from 2000.

SATURDAY: punk-rock band Dead Bob, featuring Rob Wright from NoMeansNo, plays tunes from new album Nothing Changes Everything at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Aversions and Yep.

Miles Davis doc at VIFF Centre

SUNDAY: local trumpet-player Vince Mai performs music from some of Miles Davis’s most memorable 1950s albums at VIFF Centre, followed by a screening of director Stanley Nelson’s 2019 documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool.
