Dazed and Confused screens at VIFF Centre

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until July 30 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Come From Away, Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s musical inspired by the true events of September 11, when 7,000 stranded airplane passengers were welcomed by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, runs until July 26 at the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley BFL Canada Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the FIFA Fan Festival on the PNE Grounds at Hastings Park features live broadcasts of FIFA World Cup games and live music by the Sheepdogs, Dallas Smith, Blues Traveler, the Heels, the Matinee, Blue Moon Marquee, and Johnny Reid.
The Canadians play the AquaSox
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Everett AquaSox in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Dazed and Confused, director Richard Linklater‘s 1993 coming-of-age comedy about the exploits of a group of American teenagers on the last day of high school in 1976.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
Symphony at Sunset at David Lam Park
SATURDAY: Symphony at Sunset is a free open-air performance by the Vancouver Symphony at David Lam Park, featuring works by Beethoven, Elgar, Tchaikovsky, and Saint-Saëns, and film scores by John Williams.
SATURDAY: the Bop Rockabilly Roundup at the Heatley features performances by Slim Sandy & the Hillbilly Boppers, Butch & the Lowbrows, and the Dave Monks Combo.
SATURDAY: Black Mountain’s Amber Webber & Stephen McBean give a duo performance at the Rickshaw Theatre as part of their Twin Oscillations Tour, with guests Worse and Space Queen.
Rich Hope plays Khatsahlano
SATURDAY: the annual Khatsahlano Street Party on Fourth Avenue features musical performances by dozens of local bands and artists, including Emmett Jerome, Rich Hope, Brass Camel, Don Alder, Billy and the Parole Models, 64 Funnycars, and Desirée Dawson. Here’s my interview with Rich Hope from 2009.
