Rich Hope performs on Main Street

FRIDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on Mexico’s FC Juárez in Leagues Cup soccer at BC Place.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Come From Away, Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s musical inspired by the true events of September 11, when 7,000 stranded airplane passengers were welcomed by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, runs until August 16 at the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley BFL Canada Stage.
Dark Side at the Dome
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until August 31 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.
SATURDAY: the Pleasant Day Festival, taking place on Main Street from 16th to King Edward Ave., features performances on four outdoor stages by such local acts as Rich Hope, Robert Connely Farr, Just a Season, Los Duendes, Tiger Really, Dagger, Buddie, Chopping Spree, and Bloom Effect.
SATURDAY: the BC Lions take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.
Network screens at the Rio
SATURDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of a 50th anniversary restoration of Network, director Sidney Lumet’s satirical black-comedy/drama about a a longtime network anchorman whose impending dismissal results in a mental breakdown.
SATURDAY: local Grateful Dead tribute band GD/BC performs music from all eras of Jerry Garcia’s catalog to celebrate his life at the American.
SATURDAY: the Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival, while not particularly bluesy, features free mainstage performances at Deer Lake Park by TALK, Jully Black, GALACTIC featuring Jelly Joseph, Wyatt C. Louis, and TYA.
Scott Aukerman performs at the Vogue
SUNDAY: Comedy Bang! Bang! host Scott Aukerman, along with Paul F. Tompkins & The Comedy Bang! Bang! All-Stars, perform an improvised version of the podcast at the Vogue Theatre.
