Rolling Quartz plays the Rio

FRIDAY: South Korean guitar-rock girl band Rolling Quartz–composed of members Arem, Hyunjung, Iree, Jayoung and Yeongeun–plays the Rio Theatre.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until September 30 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
Tom Cochrane plays Paterson Park
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the annual Barnside Harvest Festival features three days of performances at Paterson Park by such artists as Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell, Limblifter, the Grapes of Wrath, Smash Mouth, Kim Churchill, Daniel Wesley, and Leeroy Stagger.
SATURDAY: British pop band Squeeze, featuring singer-songwriters Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook, plays the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, with guests Adam Ant and Haircut 100. Here’s my interview with Chris Difford from 1990.
SATURDAY: the BC Lions take on the Montreal Alouettes in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.
Nosferatu screens at the Rio
SATURDAY: screenings at the Rio Theatre of director F.W. Murnau’s silent films Faust and Nosferatu, with live musical accompaniment by the Invincible Czars from Austin, Texas.
SATURDAY: American pop-rockers Weezer play Rogers Arena, with guests the Shins and Silversun Pickups. Here’s my interview with Weezer guitarist Brian Bell from 2002.
SUNDAY: progressive rock trio Stick Men–composed of bassist Tony Levin, drummer Pat Mastelotto, and guitarist Markus Reuter–plays the Rickshaw Theatre.
Taxi Driver screens at the Park
SUNDAY: 50th anniversary screening at the Park Theatre of Taxi Driver, director Martin Scorsese’s psychodrama starring Robert De Niro as a Vietnam vet who rebels against the immorality of big city life in New York.
