Good times with Great White, before the fire

I was never a big Great White fan–especially after they went platinum with their 1989 mockery of Ian Hunter’s ’70s classic, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy”.

But for some reason–no doubt work-related–I wound up going to a show at Club Soda and saying howdy to lead singer Jack Russell behind the bar while the band loaded out.

Not sure who took the picture, might have been Kevin Statham. Judging by the good shape my Blue Rodeo Diamond Mine t-shirt was in, it must have been right around the time Great White released that godawful Ian Hunter ripoff.

Russell seemed like a nice guy, I recall. What a shame that the band would go on to be best known for the 2003 nightclub fire in Rhode Island that claimed 100 lives.
