The last Halloween movie to be released—Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 in 2009—was one nasty, gruesome bit of business.
But unlike John Carpenter’s 1978 original, it wasn’t particularly scary.
“Relentlessly disturbing though it is, the movie is not particularly frightening,” opined one of the world’s most esteemed and insightful horror-movie critics.
Okay, so maybe that was just me.
But I wasn’t the only one who had a beef with Zombie’s update. In fact, some outraged dude felt compelled enough to create a 32-minute video titled “How Rob Zombie Destroyed the Halloween Franchise”.
Anyone else who yearns for the terrifying vibe of Carpenter’s low-budget classic—which cost $325,000 to make and grossed $70 million worldwide—should know that Anchor Bay just released a 35th anniversary Blu-ray version of the film on Tuesday (September 24).
Features of this edition include a a new HD transfer supervised byoriginal cinematographer Dean Cundey (The Thing, Escape From New York), a new 7.1 audio mix, a new feature-length audio commentary by Carpenter and star Jamie Lee Curtis, and a new documentary with Curtis titled “The Night She Came Home”.
The first printing comes in a book-style package with 20 pages of archival photos and an essay, so you’d better snap up a copy pronto.
