Twenty-five years ago today—on March 12, 1990—Nirvana played Vancouver’s Town Pump on a double-bill with fellow Seattle grunge-rockers Tad.
Remember that amazing gig?
I don’t.
For some strange reason I didn’t go, although a year later I’d return to the fabled Gastown venue to review Tad, and then six months after that, the mighty Pearl Jam.
I’ve been wracking my brain, trying to remember why I didn’t see Nirvana, and then I noticed an entry on the Town Pump strip ad just below the Tad/Nirvana ad:
A-ha! So there‘s the reason why I didn’t go, I’ll bet. The Beat Farmers had played a double-header on the weekend, and I was still too fried to contemplate a Monday night out.

Ha ha! I ask myself the same question….why the eff did I never see Nirvana at the pump?? Saw just about everything else that rolled through town and the town pump! I WAS at that Beat Farmers show too…😀unbelievable live shows. Country Dick….gone but not forgotten.
