But I was particularly thrilled when I got to chat with Albert King, back in 1990, two years before “The Velvet Bulldozer” passed away.
At one point in the interview I asked the “King of the Blues” (Gary Moore‘s words) if he had a favourite tune that he was playing at the time, and he didn’t, but he rattled off some of the songs in his set.
When I asked Albert if he was also playing “As the Years Go Passing By”, and that it was one of my favourites, he told a fib.
“Yeah, I wrote that myself,” he said, but now that I’ve had to time do some research, it appears that it was written by “Deadric Malone”, a pseudonym for Don Robey.
Looks like old Al pulled a fast one on me back then.
That’s okay; I forgive him.
He’s Albert King, after all.
