By Steve Newton
I’ve said it before, and I’ll probly say it again: I wish I could have interviewed Warren Zevon more than once.
But as the pesky fates would have it, I only got to the chat with the masterful songwriter and awesome human one time, back in January of 1992, when he was touring behind his Mr. Bad Example album (or “CD”, in the parlance of the times).
Before I said goodbye I asked him about the shades-wearing, smoke-smoking skull strategically placed in the bottom right-hand corner of the CD booklet’s back page.
Turns out Warren was “real fond” of OVN, whose image had graced previous Zevon albums and laminates and t-shirts.
I want an Old Velvet Nose t-shirt now.
“Whenever you see Old Velvet Nose you know it’s authentic,” Mr. Z told me.
