Jennifer Batten is an astounding guitar player, as anyone who’s seen her perform with Michael Jackson or, later on, Jeff Beck will attest.
I interviewed Batten in 2002, a year after seeing her play with Beck at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on his You Had It Coming tour.
Before that show I’d chatted with Beck, and he’d raved about how amazing Batten was. “I don’t know why she’d want to waste her life with me,” commented the self-effacing guitar god.
So when I got Batten on the phone before a DigiTech-sponsored guitar clinic I got her take on their musical relationship, asking what it was like sharing the stage with Jeff Beck, and she actually outdid him in the compliment department.
