FRIDAY: legendary L.A. punk-rockers Fear, featuring frontman Lee Ving, play the Vogue Theatre, with guests Dayglo Abortions and the Vicious Cycles.

FRIDAY: the City of Delta and Vancouver Chamber Music Society present New York City’s Zodiac Trio–clarinetist Kliment Krylovskiy, pianist Riko Higuma, and violinist Vanessa Mollard–at the North Delta Centre for the Arts.

Bealby Point plays the Rickshaw

FRIDAY: North Vancouver rock quartet Bealby Point plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Nuclear Disco, Oleo Mac, Lola, and Evesdrop.

FRIDAY: Canadian rock legend of the Guess Who and BTO fame, Randy Bachman, performs original jazz tunes, jazz standards, and a few hits, accompanied by his son Tal at Blue Frog StudiosSOLD OUT.

FRIDAY: London, Ontario rock band Texas King, featuring frontman Jordan Macdonald, plays the Cobalt, with guests Black Pontiac and Redwoods.

Steve Dawson plays Mel Lehan Hall

FRIDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents Vancouver-bred, Nashville-based guitarist and producer Steve Dawson with his band the Hooded Mergansers at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of director Lisa Cortés’s new music documentary, Little Richard: I Am Everything.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: the eatART Foundation presents RISE, a theatrical fundraiser that combines mechanical artwork with dance, music, and circus, at the Vancouver Playhouse. The show contains adult themes and language; parental guidance is advised.

Rob and Ben Frith celebrate Record Store Day

SATURDAY: it’s Record Store Day, so get out there and find yourself some new vinyl. Participating Vancouver stores include Red Cat, Dandelion, Vinyl, Beat Street, Audiopile, and Zulu Records, but the Newt recommends Neptoon Records, where owner Rob Frith has been bringing the goods for over 40 years. Get there early, though, ’cause there’s only one copy of Thin Lizzy‘s Live and Dangerous in stock.

SATURDAY: North Carolina indie-rock sextet the Nude Party plays the WISE Hall, showcasing tunes from new album Rides On, with guest Breanna Barbara. SOLD OUT.

Yumi Nagashima performs at Comedy After Dark

SATURDAY: Vancouver comedian Yumi Nagashima performs two shows of uncensored standup at Comedy After Dark.

SUNDAY: Paul Pigat’s Guitar Cabaret at the BlueShore at CapU features the Vancouver guitar sensation performing with Toronto guitar ace Kevin Breit, bassist Jeremy Holmes, and drummer Nino DiPasquale.
