The White Album is deconstructed at VIFF Centre

FRIDAY: eight-piece Vancouver band Zappostrophe’ plays favourites and lesser-known works from Frank Zappa’s eclectic recordings at Frankie’s Jazz Club.

FRIDAY: local outlaw country-folk singer-songwriter Jay Gavin performs at the Princeton Pub, with friends the Unbranded, Cat Murphy Band, Rubarb, Sinead X. Sanders, and Leah Barley.

Colin James plays the Commodore

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Vancouver blues-rock veteran Colin James (“Voodoo Thing”) performs two nights at the Commodore Ballroom with his Little Big Band.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until March of 2024 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

DARKMATTER runs at the PuSh Festival

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival features innovative theatre, dance, music, mixed-media, circus, and installations at various Vancouver venues until February 4.

SATURDAY: local Pink-Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamonds plays the Rio Theatre, performing the Animals album in its entirety, followed by a set of Pink Floyd’s biggest hits.

SATURDAY: Vancouver’s Grateful Dead cover band GDBC plays the Rickshaw Theatre.

SATURDAY: in a two-hour multimedia presentation at VIFF Centre, composer/producer Scott Freiman looks at the revolutionary techniques used during the production of the Beatles’ White Album.

Paul Pigat plays Shadbolt Centre

SUNDAY: Vancouver guitar virtuoso Paul Pigat performs swing-jazz and jump-blues with his band the Smoking Jackets, which includes a three-piece horn section, at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
