MONDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in Game Seven of their Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup at Rogers Arena.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps play Cavalry FC in a Canadian Championship soccer game at BC Place Stadium.

Battle Beast plays the Rickshaw

TUESDAY: Finnish power-metal group Battle Beast plays the Rickshaw Theatre as part of its Circus of Doom Tour, with guests Blackbriar from the Netherlands.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: through videos, photographs, testimonies, song lyrics, and reflections, the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia offers an account of infamous feminist art collective Pussy Riot’s non-violent actions, running until June 2 at the Polygon Gallery.

THURSDAY: beloved Vancouver vocalist Sarah McLachlan performs at the Pacific Coliseum on the opening night of her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour. Proceeds to benefit the Sarah McLachlan School of Music.

Link Wray tribute at the Heatley

THURSDAY: Joe Rotundo’s Interstellar Riders pay tribute to guitar hero Link Wray, at the Heatley, with guest guitar slingers Paul PigatScott Smith, and Curtis DeBray.

FRIDAY: vocalists Chester Gregory and Michael Lynche join the Vancouver Symphony in an evening of Motown at the Orpheum Theatre, featuring hits by Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, Martha Reeves, the Temptations, and Stevie Wonder.

FRIDAY: Lower Mainland blues-fusion quintet Blues Hoodoo–composed of guitarist Konrad Breuers, saxophonist Ian Putz, keyboardist Stuart “Stubop” Young, bassist Shawn Stewart, and drummer Ron Wells–plays Frankie’s Jazz.

Re-Animator screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Stuart Gordon’s gory 1985 horror-comedy Re-Animator, starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton.
