
Rock ‘n’ Roll High School screens at the Rio

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.
MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

School of Rock runs in Stanley Park
MONDAY & THURSDAY: Theatre Under the Stars presents performances in Stanley Park of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black movie, with pre-show performances from School of Rock Vancouver.
MONDAY & FRIDAY: screenings at the Cinematheque of director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1945 psychological thriller Spellbound, starring Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck.
TUESDAY: Evo Car Share and Fresh Air Cinema present a free outdoor screening of the 1995 animated family comedy Toy Story in Stanley Park. Ticketed reserved seating also available.
TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, running until August 11 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.
WEDNESDAY: Joe Rotundo & the Interstellar Riders perform instrumental surf music mixed with a rockabilly slapback at Guilt and Co.
WEDNESDAY: eight-piece New Orleans roots-rock band the Revivalists play the Vogue Theatre, featuring tunes from latest album Pour It Out into the Night.
WEDNESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Allan Arkush’s 1979 musical-comedy Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, including a live performance by local Ramones tribute band the Ramores.

Longlegs opens at various movie theatres
FRIDAY: writer-director Oz Perkins’s Vancouver-shot horror-thriller Longlegs, about an FBI agent (Maika Monroe) on the trail of a serial killer (Nicolas Cage). opens at various Metro Vancouver theatres.
