Heat screens at VIFF Centre

FRIDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of writer-director Michael Mann‘s epic 1995 crime-thriller Heat, starring Al Pacino as an L.A. detective on the trail of a career thief played by Robert De Niro. Film introduced by local writer and cinephile Mike Archibald.
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Jim Sharman’s 1975 musical comedy-horror The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tim Curry as transvestite mad-scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter. Costumes and audience participation encouraged.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until July 30 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.
Come From Away runs at the Stanley
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Come From Away, Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s musical inspired by the true events of September 11, when 7,000 stranded airplane passengers were welcomed by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, runs until August 16 at the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley BFL Canada Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Vancouver Fetish Weekend, featuring a variety of events at various Vancouver venues, is a playful, sex-positive, and inclusive space where fetish fans can connect, celebrate, and express their kinks.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the 39th annual Mission Folk Music Festival at Fraser River Heritage Park is a family-friendly celebration of music, art, and community, featuring mainstage performances by Alpha Yaya Diallo and BAFING, Tanika Charles, LowDown Brass Band, Blue Moon Marquee, Burnstick, and the Fugitives.
