Jeff Lynne’s ELO plays Rogers Arena

MONDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of a new restoration of music documentarian Roviros Manthoulis’s 1973 film The Blues Under the Skin, featuring candid interviews and intimate performances by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mance Lipscomb, Bukka White, and Roosevelt Sykes.
MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.
TUESDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on Pacific FC in a Canadian Championship soccer game at BC Place.
TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the 2024 PNE Fair runs until September 2, featuring numerous exhibits, attractions, and entertainment, including the SuperDogs, Dueling Pianos, agriculture displays, drag show, cooking demonstrations, musical performances, and rides such as the newly launched rollercoaster, ThunderVolt.

Lawrence of Arabia screens at VIFF Centre
WEDNESDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of director David Lean’s four-hour 70mm desert epic Lawrence of Arabia, starring Peter O’Toole as the eccentric English cartographer who united the Arab tribes to fight the Turks during the First World War.
WEDNESDAY: Electric Light Orchestra singer-guitarist Jeff Lynne leads Jeff Lynne’s ELO at Rogers Arena, with guests Rooney.
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis is an exhibition of 17 self-portraits by photographer Martine Gutierrez, running until September 29 at the Polygon Gallery.
THURSDAY: Canadian roots-rockers Blue Rodeo, featuring singer-guitarists Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy, play the Pacific Coliseum as part of the PNE’s Summer Night Concerts series.
FRIDAY: Vancouver blues-roots trio the Grand Koolios–composed of guitarist Tim Hearsey, bassist Rob Becker, and drummer Chris Nordquist–plays Guilt and Co.

The Mojo Stars play Frankie’s Jazz
FRIDAY: Vancouver soul-blues quintet the Mojo Stars–composed of singer-guitarist Randy Clarke, guitarist Mark Rankin, saxman Tom Gould, bassist Trevor Newman, and drummer Terry Hoff–plays Frankie’s Jazz.
