At the time he was touring behind his debut solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe, and really pushing the shock-rock angle with freaky makeup and horror-inspired tunes like “Dragula” and “Living Dead Girl”.

At one point I asked him about his fondness for original shock-rock king Alice Cooper, and what he thought of that other Cooper-inspired shock-rocker, Marilyn Manson, who was making headlines at the time.
