FRIDAY: late-night 50th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of a remastered version of Tobe Hooper’s influential horror flick The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, starring Marilyn Burns and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface.
FRIDAY: Vancouver ska band K-Man & the 45s plays LanaLou’s, with guests Dany Laj and The Looks.
FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Philadelphia Flyers in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

Limblifter plays the Commodore
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Vancouver guitar-rockers 54-40, featuring vocalist Neil Osborne, play the first of two nights at the Commodore Ballroom, with guests Limblifter. Here’s my interviews with Neil Osborne and Limblifter’s Ryan Dahle from 2000.

Cirque du Soleil’s Echo runs at Concord Pacific Place

SATURDAY: French psych/garage-rock trio SLIFT plays the Pearl, with guests Meatbodies.
SATURDAY: Surf Fest features performances by the Reviberators, the Cavaleros, Joe Rotundo and the Interstellar Riders, and the Hang-ten Hangmen at the Waldorf.

Brent Butt performs at Surrey Arts Centre
SATURDAY: Canadian comedian Brent Butt, star of TV’s Corner Gas and author of the bestselling novel Huge, performs an evening of standup at the Surrey Arts Centre. Here’s my interview with Brent Butt from 2014.
