Theremin Man Goes to the Movies at VIFF Centre

FRIDAY: Texas pop-punk band Bowling for Soup plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Adam and the Metal Hawks and Makeout. SOLD OUT.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Arts Club Theatre presents performances at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage until October 27 of Jersey Boys, a musical that tells the story of New Jersey hitmakers Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Cirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.

The Woman in Black runs at Metro Theatre

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: performances at the Metro Theatre until November 2 of Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of novelist Susan Hill’s ghost story The Woman in Black, starring and directed by Bernard Cuffling.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Fright Nights features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, running until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).

SATURDAY: Northern Ireland’s Whistlin’ Donkeys blend traditional Irish music and Celtic rock at the Rickshaw Theatre.

Electric Lady Studios screens at the VIFF Centre

SATURDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, director John McDermott’s new documentary about the New York City recording facility commissioned by Jimi Hendrix in 1968.

SATURDAY: the BC Lions take on the Montreal Alouettes in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.

SUNDAY: in Theremin Man Goes to the Movies, local musician Stephen Hamm (Slow, Canned Hamm, the Evaporators) shares his personal odyssey with the instrument, intertwining its history with his own revelations and experiences at the VIFF Centre.

The Stickman’s Hollow screens at the Badass Film Fest

SUNDAY: the Vancouver Badass Film Festival at the Rio Theatre features 22 genre films screened with filmmakers in attendance plus fire act, carnival sideshow, magic, horror burlesque, film-specific live surprises, and a pre-Halloween costume contest.
