FRIDAY: Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and activist Bruce Cockburn plays the Centre in Vancouver.
FRIDAY: Vancouver-based Pink Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamonds plays two sets at the Rio Theatre, including a performance of the Wish You Were Here album in its entirety, followed by a selection of iconic Floyd tracks.
FRIDAY: Montreal indie-rock band Wolf Parade plays the Vogue Theatre, with guests Autogramm. SOLD OUT.

Steve Hill plays Guilt and Co.
FRIDAY: Canadian blues-rock one-man band Steve Hill plays tunes from latest album Hanging on a String at Guilt and Co.
FRIDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents Get Back Unplugged, an acoustic tribute to the Beatles, at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Punkstravaganza VIII at the Rickshaw Theatre features the Dreadnoughts with guests the Real McKenzies and Distorted Times (Fri.) and Balkan Shmalkan and Jeshua Marshall (Sat).
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of Ennio, Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore‘s documentary about the career of the hyper-prolific Italian composer Ennio Morricone. In Italian and English with English subtitles.

No Other Land screens at VIFF Centre
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, the Oscar-winning documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: last chance to see the exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: xʷəlməxʷ child, running until May 25 at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery, features Manuel Axel Strain‘s figurative paintings, transformed into pictographs and set against photographic murals.

Aziz Ansari performs at the Orpheum
SATURDAY: American comic and actor Aziz Ansari performs standup comedy at the Orpheum Theatre as part of his Hypothetical Tour.
SATURDAY: Canadian singer-songwriter Stephen Fearing and his Danish indie-folk band the Sentimentals perform a 30th anniversary fundraiser for St. James Community Square at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.
SUNDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of Becoming Led Zeppelin, director Bernard MacMahon’s new documentary about the formation of the legendary British rock band, featuring never-before-seen footage and new interviews with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
