20 minutes on the phone with Jaws author Peter Benchley

Back in November of 1997 I called up American author Peter Benchley in Bethesda, Maryland.

I was writing a story on Benchley–best known for the novels (turned movies) Jaws, The Deep, and The Island–for Fangoria Magazine, to run in conjunction with the release of the TV miniseries Creature, which was based on Benchley’s 1994 novel White Shark.

I really enjoyed chatting with him about his ocean-bound novels and their film adaptations.

Sadly, Benchley died of pulmonary fibrosis in 2006 at the age of 65.
