Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii screens at the Rio

MONDAY: Vancouver quintet Petunia & the Vipers plays original music combining elements of country, blues, western swing, alt-country rock, Mexicana, French cabaret, Romanian, ragtime, jazz, punk, and folk music at the Princeton Pub.
MONDAY TO FRIDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY: screenings at the Rio Theatre of a 4K remaster of director Adrian Maben’s Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, which captures the legendary prog-rock band performing at the ancient Roman Amphitheater in the ruins of Pompeii, Italy in 1971.

Rumble screens at the VPL
THURSDAY: free screening at the Vancouver Public Library of Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, a documentary on the influence of Indigenous artists such as Link Wray on the history of American music. Here’s my interview with Link Wray from 1997.
THURSDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, the Oscar-winning documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.

Aisha’s Story screens at the Playhouse
THURSDAY: the DOXA Documentary Film Festival opening gala at the Vancouver Playhouse features a screening of Aisha’s Story, which traces the history of Palestinian displacement using food as an expression of cultural heritage and resistance.
FRIDAY: Métis Canadian alt-country singer-songwriter Kyle McKearney plays the Fox Cabaret, with guest Antonio Larosa.
FRIDAY: Toronto punk quartet the Anti-Queens and all-female Arizona punk trio the Venomous Pinks play LanaLou’s, with local guests the Get-Arounds.
FRIDAY: the Sin City Fetish Ball at the Hollywood Theatre features drag, burlesque, and fetish stage shows, kinky carnival games, BDSM play areas, and fetish dress code.

Jack de Keyzer plays Blue Frog Studios
FRIDAY: Canadian blues-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Jack de Keyzer performs with his band at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios. Here’s my interview with Jack de Keyzer from 1991.
