Freaks screens at the VIFF Centre

MONDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of director Tod Browning’s 1932 horror-drama Freaks, about a conniving trapeze artist who joins a group of carnival sideshow performers with a plan to seduce and murder a midget in the troupe.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the DOXA Documentary Film Festival showcases 39 features, 30 short and mid-length films, and industry events, running until May 11 at various Vancouver venues.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of the new documentary One to One: John and Yoko, which focuses on the 1972 John Lennon and Yoko Ono concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Yo-Yo Ma plays the Orpheum

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Recital Society presents an evening with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the Orpheum Theatre. SOLD OUT.

THURSDAY: explorer and shark conservationist Dr. Jess Cramp presents The Untold Story of Sharks as part of the 2024/25 National Geographic Live Speaker Series at the Vancouver Playhouse.

THURSDAY: Vancouver blues-rock quartet Terminal Station, featuring guitarist-vocalist Scott Smith, plays tunes from latest album Brotherhood at Frankie’s Jazz. Here’s my interview with Scott Smith from 2020.

FRIDAY: Vancouver shoegaze band la lune plays an EP-release party at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Woolworm, Dead Soft, and Hillsboro.
