FRIDAY: New Zealand-born violinist Geneva Lewis joins the Vancouver Symphony in a performance of Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: Vancouver comic Charlie Demers hosts East Van Laugh Riot at the Rio Theatre, featuring standup comedy by Randee Neumeyer and Graham Clark, with guests Jess Lupini and Sean Devlin. Here’s my interviews with Graham Clark from 2021 and Charlie Demers from 2022.

FRIDAY: 10-piece Canadian cover band Dwayne Gretzky performs classic pop and rock hits of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s at the Hollywood Theatre.

FRIDAY: the Black Priest Chinga Rock Show Blowout at LanaLou‘s features performances by Vancouver hard-rock bands Jody Black, Rebel Priest, and La Chinga.

Sharon Van Etten plays the Vogue

SATURDAY: American indie-rock quartet Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory plays the Vogue Theatre, with guests Love Spells. SOLD OUT.

SATURDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of the director’s cut of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi action-horror classic Alien, starring Sigourney Weaver as Lieutenant First Class Ellen Ripley. Here’s my original review of Alien: The Director’s Cut from 2003.

SUNDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of Blade Runner: The Final Cut, director Ridley Scott’s 2007 work-print feature version of his 1982 sci-fi classic about an former detective who is called out of retirement to track down a team of humanoid androids.

No Other Land screens at the VIFF Centre

SUNDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, the Oscar-winning documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.
