FRIDAY: American comedian, actor, television writer, author, and musician Paul Reiser, creator and costar of the Emmy-winning ’90s sitcom Mad About You, performs an evening of standup at the Rio Theatre.
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: 40th anniversary screenings at the Cinematheque of Ran, director Akira Kurosawa’s epic reworking of Shakespeare’s King Lear. In Japanese with English subtitles.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Hillsboro Hops in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Spendo plays the WISE Hall
SATURDAY: Vancouver rockers Spendo play the WISE Hall, with guests Bend Sinister and Wet Future.
SATURDAY: American roots-pop band the Wallflowers, featuring singer and songwriter Jakob Dylan, play the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver, with guests Brothers Elsey.
SATURDAY: Vancouver’s 18-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra performs the music of the Mahavishu Orchestra at the Rio Theatre, with guests the Fits (Veda Hille and Patsy Klein).
Steve Marriner plays Blue Frog Studios
SATURDAY: Canadian blues-rocker and MonkeyJunk frontman Steve Marriner and his band Local Electric play White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios.
SATURDAY: New Jersey pop-punk band the Bouncing Souls plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guests Adolescents and the Jack Knives.
SATURDAY: A Hot Country Night Out 3 at the Vogue Theatre features performances by such local roots-music artists as Rich Hope, Dawn Pemberton, Robert Connely Farr, Elliot C.
