FRIDAY: Boston alt-rock band The Pixies, featuring singer-guitarist Black Francis, plays the second of two nights at the Orpheum Theatre, with guests Kurt Vile + the Violators.
FRIDAY: teenaged hard-rock trio from Kelowna, Freeze the Fall, plays the Fox Cabaret, with guests Deserted and Cold Fame.
FRIDAY: Smokus Pokus: The World’s Dopest Magic Show is a marijuana-themed magic show at the Biltmore Cabaret featuring illusionist Eric Leclerc.

Back From the Dead runs at the Shop Theatre
FRIDAY TO SATURDAY: Renegade Arts Co. presents the world premiere of Back From the Dead, an apocalyptic rock musical with story by composer-producer Jim Buckshon and legendary Vancouver rock critic Tom Harrison, running until June 28 at the Shop Theatre. FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Tri-City Dust Devils in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

SATURDAY: San Diego garage-rock/indie-pop quartet Wavves plays the Pearl, with guests Beach Goons and Death Lens.
SATURDAY: Vancouver musician and composer Jesse Zubot performs solo on violin, viola, and miscellaneous electronics before a screening of the Salt Spring Island-shot psycho-drama Inedia at VIFF Centre.
SUNDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of a 30th anniversary restoration of director Paul Verhoeven‘s controversial satire and camp classic Showgirls, starring Elizabeth Berkley as an ambitious drifter who arrives in Las Vegas with plans to become a dancer.
