I interviewed the Donnas‘ vocalist Brett Anderson back in October of 2022, one week before the release of its major-label debut album, Spend the Night.
That’s the disc that spawned their most successful single, “Take It Off”, which peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and made the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart.
The all-female Bay Area punk quartet was touring with the Strokes at the time, enroute from Denver to Salt Lake City, and Anderson told me that the band was big fans of the Freddy Krueger movies and had just finished watching A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child on their bus.
So when the interview wound down I made sure to recommend a couple of my favourite horror flicks, to help keep the girls up at night on their travels.
